Key Features
Ryukyu Bingata is a traditional dyed textile from Okinawa with a history of about 450 years. Influenced by sarasa from the south, hanafu from China, and yuzen from the north, it flourished under royal patronage as attire for ceremonies. Its beauty lies in vivid vermilion, yellow, and indigo tones that match Okinawa’s light and nature. Blending dyes and pigments, artisans created a unique style. Techniques like katazome, tsutsubiki, and oboro-gata embody craftsmanship passed down through generations.
