Yakiri in Matsudo City lies in northwestern Chiba Prefecture, facing Shibamata in Tokyo across the Edogawa River. For centuries, the river’s nutrient-rich sediments have formed deep, fertile soil ideal for farming. The warm climate suits green onion cultivation, which has continued here since the Edo period. These onions have long, thick white stalks with rich umami sweetness. They are said to be excellent grilled, raw, or simmered, known as a premium variety used in high-end restaurants.
