IBARA DENIM

Ibara City in Okayama Prefecture has been a center for indigo-dyed textiles since ancient times. In the fifth year of the Shōwa era (1930), fabric produced in Ibara is known to have been distributed under the name ‘Blue Denim’. Today, various types of denim are produced, including selvage denim woven on traditional shuttle looms, and patterned fabrics such as jacquard. As such, Ibara City came to be known as the ‘sacred place of denim’.
