Key Features
The Nakatsugawa area is a mountainous region. A typical autumn treat, “kurikinton” is said to have originated from a simple mixture of ground chestnuts and sugar, blended in a mortar and then squeezed into shape using a tea cloth. Later, local confectionery shops began to commercialize kurikinton, each developing their own unique methods. As a result, the appearance and flavor vary widely from shop to shop. In 2019, Nakatsugawa Kurikinton was officially recognized as a regional brand.
