ECHIZEN　WARE

Pottery fired in Fukui Prefecture since the late Heian period is known as Echizen ware, and it is one of the well known ceramics of the medieval era. Today, it is counted as one of the Six Ancient Kilns of Japan and is also recognized as a Japan Heritage. The clay of Echizen contains a high amount of iron, resulting in a firm firing quality and a distinctive variety of surface textures.
